Santa Monica Beach in winter

Question: What is the weather typically like in Santa Monica in February? My hotel is a few blocks from the beach and I was wondering if it would be warm enough to swim/sun bathe.

Answer: Temperatures in Santa Monica during February stay in the 60's and 70's, with lows in the 40's and 50's (F). So you might just enjoy temperatures warm enough to catch some sun at the beach. Even if it's too cool for sunning, the Santa Monica beach is great for taking a stroll and enjoying the scenery.

Winter is the rainy season, so you should be prepared for that possibility. However, Santa Monica only gets about 12" of rain a year, so your chances of enjoying some lovely clear weather are pretty good.

Water temperature is another matter. The Pacific is fairly cold even in the summer, getting up to the high 60's about the end of summer, but it'll be in the high 50's during the winter. So whether you'll want to swim depends on how hardy a soul you are.

Here's wishing you great weather.

Joan
