Orange County California Family Resorts

Question: Going to Disneyland in October. Thinking of an add-on for a few nights at a beach-side resort. Looking for something family oriented, not too far from Anaheim.

Answer: There are three places I would suggest. All are close to Anaheim and offer family friendly resorts on or near the beach.

First up is Huntington Beach. It's only about a half hour drive from Anaheim (unless you're unfortunate enough to get caught in rush hour traffic).

Huntington Beach has plenty of sandy beach, year round lifeguards, fire pits for evening bonfires, and a pier that's a great spot for strolling and watching the sunset.

There are two major resorts, both right across from the beach on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH): The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa and the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort. The Hyatt is the more impressive and family friendly of the two, and it even has a pedestrian bridge to the beach so you don't have to cross PCH.

Another possibility is Laguna Beach, which is a little over a half hour drive from Anaheim. The Montage is located on a coastal bluff overlooking the beach and offers programs for children and teens. Laguna Beach is far more scenic than Huntington Beach, and it's also an artist colony.

A third possibility is the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, about a 40 minute drive from Anaheim. Located on a bluff high above the beach, the resort offers shuttle service to the beach and programs for families and children.

Hope you have a great time.

Joan
