These humpback whale pictures show just how animated these creatures are. They can often be seen jumping out of the water (breeching) and slapping the water with their fins. These fellows can put on quite a show.
They spend most of their time close to shore, and so are commonly seen, in spite of their small numbers. Individuals can be identified by the distinctive markings on their tail flukes. Humpback whales also have distinctively long pectoral fins, which can get up to 16 feet long.
